Instructions to the Authors

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: Journal of Social and Economic Policy (JSEP) is a peer-reviewed scholarly biannual international journal devoted to publishing high-quality papers. The main objective of the journal is to disseminate knowledge and information in the area of socio-economic development and problems. The journal focuses on theoretical, applied and interdisciplinary research and is intended to promote the discussions on social and economic policy issues. However, the Journal will also consider other types of papers provided they are of high quality. It provides a forum for debate and deliberations of academics, social and economic policy makers.

CALL FOR PAPERS: The journal welcomes contributions that discuss socio-economic issues in new and imaginative ways, offering constructive ideas and analysis and highlighting lessons that may be learned from the experiences of national and regional economies as well as the global economy at large. Papers based on policy-oriented research or field studies in the areas of social and economic development are invited.

NOTES FOR CONTRIBUTORS: Papers submitted to the JSEP should be original contributions. The papers should not be under consideration for any other publication. Authors should indicate if there is any version or part of the paper that has been or will be published elsewhere at the time of submission.

Papers should be submitted by email attachment in Microsoft Word file. They should be typewritten on A4/Ietter paper, on one side only and double-spaced. All pages should be numbered consecutively. All figures and tables should be provided at the end of the text.

Papers should be submitted to the Editor in a form suitable for sending anonymously to the reviewers. The first page of the manuscript should contain a record of the author’s name, address, affiliation and contact telephone, fax number and e-mail address. The subject matter should commence from second page onwards.

Because of heavy pressure on space, papers should not exceed 20-25 double-spaced pages typed on one side of the paper, including summary, tables, figures, notes and references.

Each paper should include an indented and italicized summary of not more than 100 words that describe the main arguments and conclusions of the paper, typed on a separate page.


1. All references cited in the paper should be included in the Reference Section and arranged alphabetically. Authors should follow the following format of reference presentation:

Todaro, M. P. (1987) Economic Development in the Third World, 3d edition, Longman, New York and London

Michaely, Michael. (1973) ‘Exports and Economic Growth: An Empirical Investigation”, Journal of Development Economics, Vol.5 (2): 293—336.

2. References in the text and notes should simply give name of the author and the year of publication quoted, e.g. Kuznets (1972)

3. Broad divisions and sections of the paper should be clearly marked. Quotations should also be cleared marked and page referenced, Quotations that exceed 40 words should be indented in the text.

4. Mathematical workings that include details that are not necessary to be included in the main text should be provided in a separate sheet of paper. These will be helpful for referees but will not be published.

5. Tables and figures should be clearly marked and provided on a separate sheet of paper. the position for tables and figures should also be clearly marked in the text.

6. Authors are expected to correct proofs expeditiously to keep alterations to a minimum.

7. Notes should be numbered consecutively and placed at the end of the paper. Author’s acknowledgement should be given in a separate sheet. These will be presented on the first page of the paper.

COMMENTS ON PUBLISHED PAPERS: Anyone wishing to make comments on a published paper should first send a copy to the authors, inviting them to give their views on the issues raised. The commentators should send their comments to the Chief Editor together with the author’s response.
